“I ran into this elderly statesman coming out of Wal-mart the other day. I spoke and asked how he was doing?
Man: “I’m beat. Just left the gym.”
Me: “It’s working, you look good.”
Man: “I’m 85 years old, I’m just trying to stay out of the wheel chair!”
I guess as we age everyone is trying to beat some health issue. I’m trying to save my foot, and this man is trying to stay out of the wheel chair.
This dialogue started me to thinking about diabetes and weightlifting. To my surprise studies have shown lifting weights may protect men from diabetes.”
[CBS News] Men who lift weights may have more to gain than bigger biceps: A new study finds pumping iron may protect men against Type 2 diabetes.
The study, published online August 6 in the Archives of Internal Medicine, involved 32,000 men who were followed from 1990 to 2008. Researchers from Harvard University in Boston and the University of Southern Denmark in Odense teamed up to examine the role exercise and weight training had on men’s risk for the disease that affects an estimated 346 million people worldwide.
