Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all
That children call
Their favorite time of the year
The Christmas season is upon us in full swing, and I luv it!! Unfortunately, for a diabetic this time of year is also very difficult because it’s hard to stick to a diabetic diet regime.
So when you’re at the office Christmas party or at a family gathering encourage and support any diabetic you know not to over do it. Remember, I said “encourage and support” not pester. No one likes a pest, including diabetics.
Now on to the reasons why I luv this time of year. First and foremost, the Messiah was born!! Secondly, I luv Christmas music. I start playing Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving non-stop until New Years day!! Because of my luv for Christmas music I’ve accumulated a massive Christmas music library over the years. Actually, I think if I put iTunes on shuffle to play all of my Christmas music it‘s a good possibility that I wouldn’t hear the same song from the same album more than once in the span of several days.
One of my friends asked what was my favorite Christmas song? Wow, good question. This should be easy, I thought. Otis Redding version of White Christmas is tops, well maybe except for my late pastor, Dr. Curtis Ridout, singing it the Sunday before Christmas every year. Maybe the Temptations’ 80’s version of Silent Night. Boney James’ Jingle Bells, talking about funkiness & jazziness fused together in one song. Wow! Then there’s Vicki Winan’s Mary Did You Know, reminding everyone of the true reason for the season. Then there are the classics, Nat King Cole The Christmas Song, James Brown Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
Now you see my dilemma, this is not as easy as I thought. Actually, I think it would be easier listing my 5 favorite albums. Hmmm, what a great idea, right? So for the next few blog entries leading up to Christmas I will share my 5 favorite all time Christmas albums.
Oh yeah, back to the question at hand, what’s my favorite Christmas song? Hmmm, I’m thinking Donny Hathaway’s This Christmas. For me this song signals the official beginning of the Christmas season. Aaah wait, what about Boyz II Men Let It Snow? Interesting. Naw, Donny Hathaway’s This Christmas. That’s my final answer.
