“Embassy Suites, front desk.”
“Hi, this is David. Both my daughter and I are trying to access the Internet wireless, however we can’t access it simultaneously.”
“Yes, that’s true. You will have to pay another $12.95 for both computers to get to the Internet at the same time.”
“What? I’m already paying $12.95 per day for Internet service, now you want me to pay another $12.95 per day? When I signed up for Internet service the terms of service did not state only one computer would be able to access the Internet wireless.”
“It didn’t state that more than one computer could either,” the front desk clerk replied.
That’s an exchange I had today with the front desk clerk here at the Embassy Suites Niagra Falls – Fallsview. Can you believe this? First of all, what happened to customer service? My tone was not of anger or upset, it was more of surprise. So the clerk’s condescending reply back is unacceptable. Secondly, staying at a lower-tier hotel, Hampton, Motel 6, Choice Hotels, etc., Internet access is much cheaper, if not FREE. Unfortunately, when staying at a mid-tier or higher hotel, you’re charged handsomely for Internet service. So basically, for the 3 laptops and iPod Touch we had with us, if all 4 of us tried to log on simultaneously that’s a whopping $51.80 per day. Thirdly, this Embassy Suite has over 42 floors, however, wireless Internet access is only on the 9th floor (atrium level), we were staying on the 16th. Really, wireless Internet connection only on one floor? Definitely something I wasn’t expecting at a hotel the caliber of Embassy Suites. Thirdly, albeit the “work desk” in our room did have an Internet jack (port) at desk-level for wired Internet access, however the power jack was across the room. Therefore, in order to use a computer at the “work desk” required me to stretch the power cord across the room, BRILLANT!!! This has to be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

What does this have to do with taking control of your health care? Just like all Embassy Suites are not created equal, all health care providers are not also. So take control of your health care just like I’m taking control of this situation. Prior to putting them on blast in this blog, I called customer service and I emailed them a letter, come on, $51.80 per day for Internet access and you’re going to be a smartass while sticking it to me, really?

I got a email today from the Embassy Suites stating they had reverse the Internet charges off of my bill….. Thank You Very Much!!!
