“Let’s share a slice of key lime pie?” “The deserts are located on the table in the in dining room.” “Have you tried the chocolate covered pretzels?”
My initial topic for today’s blog was going to be my new diet. Actually, I hate using the word “diet” because that suggests once I’ve reached my goal I can go back to my old eating habits. My foot can’t afford for me to go back to my old eating habits, so I like to say that I’ve adopted a “low carb lifestyle.” But based on the events of the past 6 days, I feel ashamed to blog about my “low carb lifestyle.” My low carb lifestyle over the past 6 days has been everything but “low,” because I’ve been to 5 Christmas gatherings and I’ve eaten quite a few sweet delicacies.
Prior to the Christmas holidays, I was keeping my carb count around 30-40g per day. Unfortunately, I’ve only been able to hit that goal about 3 times over the past week. The good thing is, although I’ve gone over 30g a few days, I’m no where near the amount of carbs I would have eaten if I hadn’t taken control of my health care. Prior to this, I was easily consuming 200-300g of carbs per day, if not more. This time last year, I probably consumed over 1000g of carbs per day. So although I’ve missed my new mark, I’ve still made considerable progress from where I started.
As you enjoy the holidays, if your ailment calls for restriction in your dietary intake, be mindful of this fact as you attend various Christmas gatherings. However, if you give into temptation by taking a few bites of the forbidden food, just remember you are not Adam or Eve so you haven’t condemn the whole world to a life of sin. They have already taken care of that, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
Just remember today is a new day to achieve your goal. I’ll share the “ins and outs” of my “low carb lifestyle” next year…. Enjoy your holiday’s fellowshipping with family friends. Don’t forget the reason for the season.
