ABC News reported that “a significant chunk of health care professionals declined to get vaccinated against the influenza virus.” Click here to read the entire story.
This is why it’s so important for YOU to take control of your health care. Although this article by ABC did not delve deeply into the specifics why these healthcare professionals are not getting a flu shot, other than they are too busy, getting vaccinated is inconvenient, and some believe the vaccine will result in a bout of the flu among other reasons. The mere fact that a significant number of healthcare professionals are not getting the flu shot, should give a non-healthcare professional reason to pause. Do they know something we don’t know? For the sake of humanity, let’s hope that’s not the case. Also, by not getting inoculated are they putting the people they serve at undue risk? Heck, the old saying, you’re more at risk of catching a disease in the hospital, than in the general population, just may be true for the flu virus. I thought this saying was insinuating that patients could pass along their illness, not the hospital workers.
Gather information on your health care needs. If you’re considering getting the flu shot, ask your doctor does he/she know what percentage of his/her office has been inoculated? Again, YOU must take control of your health care. Don’t depend on someone else to do it for you. The person that’s helping you just may be the one making you sick.
